IGNOU Ph.D Admission July 2025 Eligibility Criteria
- Master’s Degree: A 1-year/2-semester master’s degree after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree, OR a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree after a 3-year/6-semester bachelor’s degree, or equivalent qualifications, with at least 55% marks in aggregate.
- 4-year/8-semester Bachelor’s Degree: Candidates seeking admission directly after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree program must have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate.
- M.Phil. Degree: Candidates who have completed an M.Phil. program with at least 55% marks in aggregate are also eligible.
- Relaxation: A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade is allowed for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories as per UGC norms.

Application Fee: INR 1000 (non-refundable).

IGNOU Ph.D Admission July 2025 Selection Procedure
- Admission to the Ph.D. program is generally based on a candidate’s performance in the UGC NET examination and an Interview conducted by the University.
- Category A (UGC NET with Fellowship/JRF): Candidates who qualified UGC NET with Fellowship (with JRF) need to fill the online admission form and will be called for an interview. The interview carries 100% weightage.
- Category B (UGC NET without Fellowship): Candidates who qualified UGC NET without Fellowship (covering UGC NET qualified candidates from June 2024 and onwards sessions with a validity certificate) also need to fill the online admission form. They will be called for an interview based on the merit of their UGC NET score.
- The Ph.D. program involves coursework during the first six months of admission, which will be conducted at the IGNOU Campus in New Delhi. At least 80% attendance is compulsory for coursework.
- IGNOU offers both Part-time and Full-time Ph.D. programs.
