IGNOU B.Ed Admission January 2020 : Entrance Test Application Form, Fee, Eligibility, Syllabus


The Indira Gandhi National Open University offered 2 years B.Ed – Bachelor of Education Programme under its School of Education (SOE). Every year, large no. of students take online admission in bachelor of education programme through an entrance exam which is held by university. The B.Ed admission is done only through B.ED Entrance Exam which is held in regional / study centres which are allotted by university.

The B.Ed admission is done only once in a year i.e in the month of January. Ignou B.Ed entrance exam for January 2020 session is conducted in the month of July for the respective year i.e 27th JULY 2019.

The application form and guide for applicants for Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) discipline which is recognized by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) is available online under Prospectus. The cost of Ignou B.Ed Prospectus 2019 is Rs 1000/- (Including Registration Fees). It means Rs. 1000/- at counter and Rs. 1050/- by post.

About B.Ed Discipline : The B.Ed. Programme offered by IGNOU is an innovative programme utilizing self instructional materials and information technology along with interactive personal contact programmes. The programme is essentially a judicious mix of theoretical and practical courses to develop in a practicing teacher appropriate knowledge, skills, understanding and attitude.

The B.Ed. Programme of IGNOU is recognized by the NCTE vide their Letters No. F3/DL-83/99/7807-7812 dated 31/05/1999 and NRC/NCTE/OL-83/dated 23/10/2015 is offered in NCTE approved B.Ed. Training Colleges of Education in the country.

The Admission to this programme is on the basis of an Entrance Test. Ignou B.Ed Admission shall be done on the basis of the score obtained in the on-line entrance test conducted by NTA all over India. The candidate will be required to submit online entrance form. The original documents are to be verified later after receiving offer letter for admission at concerned regional centres. B.Ed Course Duration : The minimum duration of the programme is 2 years. However, the maximum period allowed for completion of the programme is five years.

Medium of Instruction : This discipline is available in both medium i.e English and Hindi.

Ignou B.Ed Eligibility Criteria : To be eligible for this discipline, candidates should be :

1.) at least fifty percent marks either in the Bachelor’s Degree and/or in the Master’s Degree in Sciences/ Social Sciences/ Commerce/ Humanity. Bachelor’s in Engineering or Technology with specialization in Science and Mathematics with 55% marks or any other qualification equivalent thereto,

2.) The following categories are eligible to be the students of B.Ed (ODL) :

  • Trained in-service teachers in elementary education OR
  • Candidates who have completed a NCTE recognized teacher education programme through face-to-face mode.
  • The reservation and relaxation of 5% marks in minimum eligibility will be provided to SC/ST/OBC (Non creamy layer)/PWD candidates as per the rules of the Central Government.

3.) Reservation to Kashmiri Migrants and war widow candidates will be provided as per the University Rules.

4.) Masters’ Degree awarded without a first degree is not accepted for purpose of Academic Studies in IGNOU.

Ignou B.Ed Admission Procedure January 2020 ? : The B.Ed admission is very easy and understandable. The B.Ed Admission shall be done on the basis of the score / grade which is obtained in the B.Ed Entrance test at basis of all over India. There is no age bar to take admission in bachelor of education. After b.ed entrance result, the applicants needs to submit the filled-in application form with attested copy of documents which are specified in Entrance-cum-Admission Form. When applicants receive an offer letter for admission from the Regional Centre, then it is needed to submit original documents.

Ignou B.Ed Entrance Test / Exam : Each and Every year, Ignou B.Ed entrance exam is conducted in July month. For an entrance exam, the university will upload B.Ed hall tickets just 10 days before the date of entrance test. The number of seats of each PSC is limited to 50 only. The admission is strictly done on the basis of merit list in an entrance exam and eligiblity which is shown at time of filling application form.

Ignou B.Ed Fee Structure : For full programme, the Programme Fee is Rs. 50,000/- for the entire programme. Candidates seeking admission to the B.Ed. programme are advised not to pay the programme fee along with the online entrance form. They will get a separate communication about their admission and payment of fee. The programme fee should be paid only by way of Demand Draft drawn in favour of IGNOU payable at the city where your Regional Centre is situated. Please write in capital letters your name and the programme to which admission is sought, i.e., B.Ed., on the back of the Demand Draft to ensure proper credit of your fee to the relevant account.

Ignou B.Ed Entrance Hall Ticket : For giving an entrance exam, the university will release B.Ed Entrance Hall Ticket just 10 days before that start of examination. So, students will receive their hall ticket via post. If any student didn’t receive their hall ticket on time, so students can download their hall ticket by visiting university online portal.

Ignou B.Ed Entrance Result : After giving an entrance exam, students are eagerly waiting for their result and search on Internet at regular basis. So, no need to search more. As university generally declare an result with in 45 days after an entrance exam. So keep visiting university website at regular interval to check latest entrance result.

Ignou B.Ed Course and Syllabus : The programme is a judicious mix of theory and practical courses to facilitate student-teachers in acquiring skills and competencies necessary for teaching-learning at secondary/senior secondary level. Illustrations and cases of relevant situations and activities comprise the core of each course. These are suitably supported by theoretical aspects to the extent needed. Eligible students can download Bachelor of Education syllabus in Pdf format from university official website. Keeping this in view, the programme has the following components :

First Year :

Core Courses : 16 credits
Content-based Methodology Courses (two) : 08 credits
Workshop – I : 04 credits
EPC I and II : 04 credits
Internship – I : 04 credits

Second Year :

Core Courses : 12 credits
Optional Courses : 04 credits
Workshop – II : 04 credits
EPC III and IV : 04 credits
Internship – II : 12 credits

One learner has to complete 72 credits for successful completion of the programme.
